Growerth (グローワース Gurōwāsū) is a large island located in the North Sea between the coast of northern Germany and the United Kingdom. It is under Germany's jurisdiction, and it is the primary setting of the series.
Growerth enjoys a moderately successful tourism industry, thanks in part to the annual Carnale Festival, which is held in celebration of the island's own historical celebrity Carnald Strassburg, the island's rich cultural heritage and supernatural lore, and the presence of Waldstein Castle.
Geography and Infrastructure Edit
The center of the island sports many small mountains, which are covered in deciduous forests. The largest mountain, Mt. Wasserspitze, is located on the southern side of the island. Near the top of Mt. Wasserspitze is Waldstein Castle, a medieval-era castle that remains one of the island's most popular tourist destinations for its status as the symbol of Growerth.
There are several cities on the island, which have everything from medieval-esque streets to modern-day civic centers and hotels. There are no skyscrapers in any of the cities - the highest buildings are the five-story hotels dispersed throughout the cities. Cars are the main form of transport, though horse-drawn carriages are used for tourism purposes, and transport animals are used by farmers in the more rural areas.
The western side of the island has no cities nor significant tourist attractions. After the main church there burned down, the local population dwindled and there are only a few residences left.
The island is remarkable for its long history of humans coexisting with vampires and other supernatural beings, though nowadays the local youth do not really believe in the supernatural (the elders, on the other hand, do). The inhuman inhabitants of Growerth are overseen by Gerhardt von Waldstein (the former governor of the island) and later his adopted son Relic von Waldstein after he succeeds Gerhardt as lord.
The human side of the island is left to the humans - the most prominent politician of which is mayor Watt Stalf (who is actually a Dhampyr). He plans on merging all the cities of Growerth into one megacity, which he aims to rule over.
Watt is the former mayor of Rukram, which merged with the city Mozartzungen to become Neuberg in 2005. He is the current mayor of Neuberg.
In centuries prior to the 21st century, public executions were carried out in the underground caverns below Waldstein Castle.
